Oath of Enlistment

New recruit Dana Shane, takes the oath of enlistment from Lt. Cmdr. Tim Murphy during a recent enlistment ceremony held here August 21, 2009. Lt. Cmdr. Murphy also serves as a U.S. Congressman and was recently commissioned as a naval officer. Congressman Murphy was on base to get his military ID card, when recruiters offered him the opportunity to deliver the oath to Mrs. Shaner. Mrs. Shaner was finalizing her enlistment paperwork with recruiters and her father; Tech. Sgt. Robert Shaner; when she learned that Congressman Murphy would be swearing her in. This was the first time Lt. Cmdr. Murphy delivered the oath of enlistment as a newly commissioned naval officer. Mrs. Shaner will depart for Basic Training in Jan 2010 and upon her return join the 32nd Aerial Port team. (Photo by Col. Gordon H. Elwell, USAFR)
