Ammo Extraction Exercise

Master Sgt. Jerry Johnson, 911 Maintenance Squadron Munitions Flight Chief, briefs a member of the local fire department as to what hazard has been simulated here, July 9, 2011, during an Ammo Extraction Exercise. In this case, it was a flare cartridge exceeding its drop distance. Other fire department personnel stand-by and await instructions. Drills such as this one are conducted to train firefighting forces and unit personnel, and to ensure all other personnel involved understand their duties. They are also conducted to evaluate fire alarm systems, firefighting equipment, and evacuation procedures. (U.S. Air Force Photo by Senior Airman Melissa S. Knox)
