Standards of Inspection
Tech. Sgt. Dan Manning, 911th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, checks the oil level of a C-130 Hercules engine during a basic post-flight inspection, Jan. 12, 2014 at the Pittsburgh International Airport Air Reserve Station. A check of the C-130’s fluids and functions is conducted before and after the completion of each flight to certify that the aircraft remains compliant with Air Force maintenance standards. Each of the C-130’s four engines is capable of holding up to 12 quarts of oil, but the maintained standard is 10 quarts of 899 synthetic turbine engine oil.
