Capt. Nick Megyesi, now the two time winner of Air Force Reserve Command's Security Forces Company Grade Officer of the Year Award, tailors his approach to his day with three things in mind; maintaining strict discipline, strict standards, all while taking care of his people.

As the operations officer with the 911th Security Forces Squadron his main duty is the oversight of three shifts of security forces personnel, who are charged with protecting the base -- its personnel and assets.  He shows up early and he stays late and as a former enlisted security forces member, he understands the day-to-day challenges his team faces.  From long cold days to unruly drivers, he believes his team meets these challenges and exceeds all expectations, which to him has unfortunately put him in the limelight.

"My faith, my leaders, and my team, coupled with their professionalism are the reasons I have won these awards," said Megyesi. "I have been blessed by the quality of people that surround me from wing leadership to our [security forces members].  Everyone here works together, works hard and is extremely professional."

An Ohio native, Megyesi lovingly refers to his team as the "joes" and his joes are always the first thing on his mind when coming to work.  His team consists of reservists in active status, Department of the Air Force personnel, traditional reservists and Navy security augmentees during the drill weekend. Bringing all of these people together to form a cohesive team can be a challenge; however, according to Megyesi, the competence, dedication and hard work of the security forces team makes it much easier.

While the expectation of professionalism and hard work is set in place by Megyesi and the security force's leadership, Megyesi said he tries his best to be fair, consistent and attentive with his team.

When asked "how would your people describe you" he said "ask them, I am not sure; however I'd hope they'd say I am deliberate and fair," said Megyasi.  "If this award is a measure of my success it is because of them that I have been successful."
