NCO Leadership Course scheduled Published March 4, 2011 By Tech. Sgt. Scott Pryor 911 AW/PA PITTSBURGH IAP ARS -- Junior noncommissioned officers will have the opportunity to further their military knowledge by attending the Air Force Reserve Command NCO Leadership Course here in May. This two-week leadership course, which will run from May 2-13, will focus on technical and staff sergeants, although fast-track senior airmen will also be considered. It combines college-level academic management and leadership instruction with military practical, experiential and hands-on application. The 32nd Aerial Port Squadron will host the class. "Anyone that's attended this course has loved it," said Senior Master Sgt. MaryAnn Grow, chief of education and training for the 911th Airlift Wing. Nominees must be recommended by their supervisor or commander. A Form 101 must be submitted to request a training line number. A maximum of 25 students is allotted and is centrally funded. The course was established in 1989 and is administered in two phases. Phase One covers the first week. The first three days will address the management process, leadership and military heritage. The remaining two days will involve students applying learned techniques to a military environment. Phase Two will address communication skills, principles of counseling, time management, stress in the workplace and effective writing. Students will then apply that knowledge in a military environment, followed by a leadership exchange to finish the session. A graduation ceremony will be held May 13. Students will wear Blues on each Monday the course is in session and wear the Airman Battle Uniform or the Battle Dress Uniform the remaining days. Students will earn two college credit hours in management through Central Texas College. For more information, contact Tech. Sgt. Gary Bonus, 412-474-7106, or Staff Sgt.
