Undergraduate Pilot/Navigator Training Published Jan. 27, 2009 By Captain Diane Ohm 758 AS PITTSBURGH AIR FORCE RESERVE -- 1. The 758th Airlift Squadron, located at Pittsburgh International Airport, Pennsylvania, is accepting application packages from applicants interested in attending Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT) and/or Undergraduate Navigator Training (UNT). The Air Force Reserves is an Equal Opportunity Employer. You must meet these minimum qualifications to apply: A. Education: A Bachelor's Degree is required (must be obtained prior to attending training). An official transcript, showing most recent semester credit hours and Grade Point Average (GPA) will be submitted for review. Applicants may apply within their last semester prior to graduation, but will not be accepted for the official Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) selection board until their degree is complete. The minimum competitive GPA is a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. B. Maximum Age: Must be commissioned prior to age 29 ½, and must be able to enter Undergraduate Flight Training before reaching 30 years of age. The Air Force Reserve is not currently entertaining age waivers for pilot candidates. C. Physical: All candidates must be able to pass an Air Force Flying Class I/IA Flight Physical. Pilot candidates must have uncorrected distant vision of 20/70 or better, corrected to 20/20 or better. Navigator candidates must have uncorrected distant vision of 20/200 or better, corrected to 20/20. Individuals are encouraged to complete at least the medical prescreening portion of the entrance physical prior to applying. D. Must be a U.S. Citizen, mentally and morally sound, and capable of obtaining a SECRET security clearance. E. Must have taken the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) and meet minimum scores outlined in Air Force Instruction (AFI) 36-2005 and AFRC Instruction 36-2602. The minimum competitive scores are: Pilot - 80, Navigator - 70, Verbal - 60, Quantitative - 60, Academic Aptitude - 70. F. Pilot candidates only: Must have taken the Test of Basic Aviation Skills (TBAS) and obtained a Pilot Candidate Selection Method (PCSM) score of 40 or better. The minimum competitive PCSM is a score of 80 or better. G. Prior Service candidates only: Please include copies of your last two OPR/EPRs and latest DD214 (if applicable). 2. To be considered, you must submit an application package to the 758th AS UPT/UNT Selection Board.Packages must be received no later than 15 October 2011 and contain the following documents: AFOQT and PCSM scores, college transcript,applicant questionnaire, cover letter and resume. Resumes should include pertinent information, such as total flying time and experience, including ratings received, and date of birth. Additional documents, such as letters of recommendation, may be included at the applicant's discretion. Incomplete packages will be held up to one year until all information is received, but will not be considered for interview selection until complete. Qualified candidates may be invited to attend an interview with the Selection Board. All travel, lodging, meals and any other expenses are the responsibility of the candidate. The Selection Board will nominate an indeterminate number of candidates to compete on an Air Force Reserve board held in 2012. If nominated, candidates must complete additional paperwork, including a DoD physical and the Initial Flight Physical, prior to the Reserve board. 5. The Air Force Reserve will further review applicants and select a number to attend Officer Training School (OTS), Initial Flight Screening (IFS) and UPT/UNT. OTS is held at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, and lasts 12 weeks. IFS is held at Pueblo, Colorado and consists of 14 or 18 hours of training in light aircraft, simulating military flight training.The initial phases of UPT are held at one of three military training bases (Columbus AFB, Mississippi, Laughlin AFB, Texas or Vance AFB, Oklahoma) and lasts approximately one year. UNT is held at Randolph AFB, Texas and lasts approximately nine months. Further training in the C-130 will be held at Little Rock AFB, Arkansas, and lasts approximately six months. Additional training, such as Water and Combat survival, will be required prior to full qualification as a pilot or navigator. 6. If selected, a military obligation is incurred, beginning on the date graduated. Applicants will be required to sign an affidavit with the Military Personnel Office accepting this obligation. Upon completion of training, pilots or navigators are expected to perform military duties (ground and/or flying) approximately four days a month to maintain currency and minimum training standards, as well as attending monthly Unit Training Assemblies (UTAs) and Annual Tours, as required by the Air Force Reserve.
