PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AIR RESERVE STATION, Pa. --

The 911th Logistics Readiness Squadron found a unique way to spend time with the families of their 27 deployed Airmen here November 5, 2017.

In the spirit of the holiday season, the squadron hosted an event that allowed families to create unique greeting cards to send to their deployed family members.

“It’s just a way for us to reach out to the deployed (Airman’s) family back home and say ‘we haven’t forgotten you, we know you’re making a huge sacrifice, come out and spend some time with us,’” said Maj. Jonathan Greer, the commander of the 911th LRS.

Greer’s wife, Dawn, spent months collecting donations and organizing the event. She said it’s about doing something nice for the deployed Airmen, but also reaching out to the families and recognizing them during the holidays.

The Greer’s brought a scrapbooking group up from Wheeling, W. Va., to lead the event. The group put supply kits together for each family and offered assistance when needed. Dawn said the event was a big success and she anticipates more events to reach out to families in the future.
