PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AIR RESERVE STATION, Pa. --

Eight teams prepared for the 2017 Intramural Volleyball Tournament Friday, April 7, 2017, at the 911th Airlift Wing Fitness Center. The competition, now narrowed down to four teams, met again the following evening to face off for the title of 2017 Volleyball Champions, a title which puts its owner ahead of the game to receive the Commander’s Trophy at the end of the 2017 Intramural Program.

After a close 21-16 match between the 911th Civil Engineer Squadron and the 911th Aerial Port Squadron Saturday evening, the winner was determined: the 911th CES would take home the winning title.

This is the first year the 911th CES was victorious in the volleyball portion of the intramural. Master Sgt. Brian Keenan, engineering assistant with the 911th CES, accredits his team’s success to their teamwork and communication.

“All the teams were good,” said Keenan. “There were times where we were down in the match and I didn't think we would come back and win, but somehow we pulled it off.”

With the volleyball and basketball tournaments out of the way for the year, only softball and flag football remain to determine which team will receive the Commander’s Trophy.

“Intramurals promote team building and camaraderie,” said Tamra Davis, fitness center manager. “Several members approached me after the tournament to express how much fun they had and that they got to meet members from their unit and other squadrons that they did not know.”

Will the 911th CES be able to continue their winning streak at the next, or will another team step up to the plate for a chance at the Commander’s Trophy? Find out more about upcoming intramural events by visiting the fitness center or calling 412.474.8245.
