The Honorary Commander Program was developed to encourage an exchange of ideas, share experiences and foster friendships between key members of the local civilian community and the Western Pennsylvania military community. The program provides a unique opportunity for area community leaders to shadow Guard and Reserve commanders. The purpose is fourfold:

To foster an enduring and fruitful link between WPA military leaders and civilian supporters.

To communicate with and impact the concept that military leaders share mutual interest, concerns and challenges with civilian stakeholders.

To maximize opportunities to share WPA military stories with potential new stewards and those who may have no military connection.

To promote mutual appreciation for WPA military units and civic focused community members.
