Senior Airman Nathan Keene, aircrew flight equipment technician attached to the 911th Airlift Wing, Operations Support Squadron, reads an encrypted text message on his Combat Survivor Evader Locator radio during a joint training exercise, here, June 27, 2012. Keene is partaking in this joint CSEL radio training program together with other participating Operation Support Squadrons such as the 171st Air Refueling Wing from Pittsburgh, Pa., the 914th Airlift Wing from Niagara Falls, N.Y., the 910th Airlift Wing from Youngstown, Pa., and the 4th Fighter Wing from Goldsboro, N.C. The CSEL radio is critical for aircrew members to use because of the global positioning and encrypted text systems that can signal any branch of the military in case of an emergency, which makes this system a vital piece of equipment for deployed military members during any combat mission.
