National Immunizations Awareness Month
The month of August is recognized as National Immunizations Awareness month due to the start of the new school year across America, which makes this the perfect time for Airmen and their families to ensure their immunizations are up to date. Children less than six years old need a series of shots to protect against chicken pox, measles, polio, and hepatitis. At age 11 or 12, children should have a booster shot to protect against tetanus, meningitis, diphtheria, whooping cough and the human papillomavirus. Another booster shot is needed at the age of 16 to protect against meningitis. Adults need a booster shot every ten years to protect from tetanus and diphtheria. Please see your military or local physician for details about immunizations. (U.S. Air Force photo illustration by Senior Airman Joshua J. Seybert/Released)
