The 911th Airlift Wing fitness program was recognized Nov. 5, 2017, as the 2016 A1 Fitness and Sports Program of the Year.

Col. Anne Gunter, the Director of Manpower, Personnel and Services, at Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Ga., visited the fitness center to present the award and thank the Airmen for their continued dedication to the mission of supporting service members and families.

“I really want to give you a hand,” Gunter said. “I’m so proud to be here today to recognize you, and your accomplishments. You’re serving our Airmen, their families and the community. There is nothing more important than that.”

Tamra Davis, the fitness center manager, said the sentiment from fitness center patrons has been overwhelmingly positive. She said her and teammate, Antonio Caro, are heavily vested in providing a valuable service to the base population.

“We’ve built it to where it is now, and we set the bar pretty high,” she said. “We’ve built it from the ground up, and we’re a team of two.”

Davis pointed out that community support has played a big part in the accomplishments of the fitness program. With new base construction limiting available space, Davis and Caro were able to partner with local sources to continue intramural sports programs and fitness testing.

Some of the highlights contributing to the success of the facility include the availability of instructor-led fitness classes, 24-hour access to the facility, organized fun runs, virtual and DVD classes, and prompt repairs to broken equipment.

“It was an honor to be recognized,” Davis said. “It means a lot to know everything we do here is appreciated.”
