The 911th Airlift Wing commemorated its 11th annual Earth Day festivities April 25. The day began with a presentation on Green Buildings and Energy Conservation given by Indigo Raffel, the Education Coordinator from Conservation Consultants, Inc., located on the Southside of Pittsburgh.
The base tree planting ceremony followed the presentation. This year, an evergreen tree was planted behind Bldg. 416. The tree planters included; Col. Steven Clayton, Master Sgt. Michael DeRiggi, Tech. Sgt. Peter D. Rose and Louise A. Jones.
After a quick lunch break the base began its annual clean-up. Air Reserve Technicians and civilians from every area on base did their part, picking up debris around the base. This year Civil Engineering added flower planting to the clean-up routine which inspired more people to participate in the afternoon activities; even Headquarters. All in all, the 911th Airlift Wing’s commemoration of Earth Day 2006 was one of the best and we hope that next year is even better. See you then and remember–every time you see a tree hugger, smile and wave hello!
